I’m not sure there’s anything more special than having a long time friend ask you to be their wedding photographer. Isabel and I became friends during our freshman year at Randolph-Macon. She loved history and I loved math, so I guess it’s true that opposites attract. We spent countless hours together during our time at RMC — from homework parties to laundry nights and rounds as Resident Assistants to Saturdays at football games. Isabel even rode with me to photoshoots that were a long drive away just to keep me company. She is the most supportive friend, and I’m so grateful to have had her in my corner all these years.

I remember sitting in the floor of my dorm room in Mary Branch talking about this very day. The day she would marry the love of her life. When Nick started popping into a few of her Instagram posts, I immediately knew that he was the one. After meeting him, my confidence in that only became greater. Nick is kind and caring, thoughtful and supportive — just like Isabel. Not to mention, with their love for history, they’re a match made in heaven.

Saturday couldn’t have been more perfect. What started out as a gloomy and rainy day turned into the most beautiful day, complete with blue skies and sunshine. Spring arrived just in time to celebrate the Ropers. Nick and Isabel had an intimate ceremony and reception at Linden Row Inn. They said “I do” surrounded by their closest friends and family, and they danced the night away to lots of Taylor Swift’s biggest hits.

My favorite part of Nick and Isabel’s day was their first look. Their smiles and giggles said it all. It was like everything fell into perfect peace and joy in that moment. I think it was also extra special because Isabel worked so hard to convince Nick to do a first look! She gave him a PowerPoint presentation on the pros of doing one. Not only was she successful in winning him over, but they got 200+ bride and groom portraits because of it! I’ll call that a win!

Nick and Isabel, I’m so overjoyed for you and cannot wait to see what’s in store for your marriage. Thank you for being the best example of what it looks like to be a good friend and to love your people well. It’s a joy to know you. Cheers to you, Mr. and Mrs. Roper!
