One of my favorite parts about being a wedding photographer is hearing each couple’s story. I love stories, and everyone has one! From their first “I love you” to the proposal, I love all of it. It’s such an honor to document love stories that will span generations and leave a legacy of love.
Today is mine and Cameron’s four-year anniversary. So I thought it was only appropriate to start a new series on the blog sharing our love story.
It was March of 2015, and I was trying to make friends anyway I could. I crave connections and was desperately trying to form some before the start of my freshman year of college. I remember being so nervous every time I sent a message to a potential new friend, but this one felt different.
It was 11:30pm on March 9th when I DM’d Cameron on Twitter and said, “Hey Cameron! You live in Fayetteville?!” I had just made new friends from Fayetteville on a fall retreat, so I felt a connection already. He responded two minutes later with “Hey Taylor! And yup I sure do!” From there we connected on our upbringing, friendships, school, and church. This was the beginning of what neither of us expected to be forever.
I was planning on starting a Bible Study at Randolph-Macon our freshman year, so I politely asked if Cameron wanted to join. The only requirement to join was that I needed his phone number to add him to the group message. (Sneaky, right?)
Throughout the summer, we became best friends by texting, sharing life together and coaching each other through situations as any best friend would. I told Cameron that I would take him to all of the yummy restaurants and we would be the best of friends!
Just before Cameron reported to camp for football, he texted me and said, “Can I be honest with you?” Of course I said yes. That’s what having a friend is all about! He proceeded to tell me that he had feelings for me. I wasn’t so sure about this, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t respond for two hours because I was waiting for my mom to get off of the phone. I wasn’t quite sure how to respond. I loved being friends, but we had never even met or talked on the phone. To this day, neither of us can remember how I responded. However, I do remember my mom saying, “I give it 3 months. You’ll be dating in 3 months” I immediately told her that we were simply going to be best friends. I guess I wasn’t quite sold on the fact that moms know best…
Check back next week for Part 2 of the new series, “Our Story”.
